day 2: scratch takes

Today we worked real hard. We also encountered a feral pack German Shepard puppies on the way into Ratcow.

Murphy ran them off. and saved Ratcow and its occupants for the day.

Forray into Manliness

Studio Day 1

With chests puffed up, out and a longing to locate some sense of self separate from the cold wombiness of studio. we ventured to hardware store... for to build baffling for the our upcoming mission: record new album.

we found nails and stuff. My vanity was caught on security tape and a hard-ware lady laughed at us.

Day One of recording consisted of cleaning up studio from previous sessions over the last few months and building baffling for songs.

desmond dekker

I'm usually the last to know about these things, but Desmond Dekker rules. I borrowed Shitty's car because the something or other broke on my car from the 150,000 miles of touring we've done in the last few years. This however, is the first problem I've had with my truck since the purchase, better than most tour vehicles I've been in or heard about. Anyway Desmond Dekker was in the automobile CD player and I stole'd it from Bryon's car and rocked to it some marina and meatball making.

We're playing a awareness benefit show at UWF for the non-profit organizations: Seeds of Hope. They raise funds and educate the public about suicide prevention.

March Tour and Beyond

The March tour was interesting, we played some really awesome clubs: Rafters (St Simons Island), Shantytown (Jacksonville), The Wonderroot (Atlanta). On the other hand I also had two of the worst musical experience of my life in March at clubs no worth mentioning. Although I did hear one of the greatest reasons ever from a club owner at one of the unnamed clubs for not paying us the band:

PSR 2:30am: You know that $30 does not really reflect the total sales for the bar this evening, there are at least 75 people with drinks in their hands and they've been here for at least 3 hours.

Unnamed Club Owner: Well they are all here to see me... not you guys.

Of course people go to clubs to see the owners.

We are going to start recording our new album this month and hopefully we will have it ready for release by the fall. Next tour should be in September or October. Stay tuned we'll be doing regional shows and stuff.

March Tour and New Album

Hi we're gearing up for a March tour through the southeast, one can check the dates here:
www.myspace.com/paperrocketpack

We started setting up loops and samples yesterday for the new album. We plan to record the new album ourselves for a few reasons. First we can save our money for tours and second I believe we've learned enough about making records that we'll make new and different mistakes. Here's the tentative track listing for the new album:

One Wheel Cycle
Anathema (Paper Boats)
Skin on Skin
The Rose Chafer in the Country Wine
Visions Of Mary
Majnun
Paris is Burning

Tour?

We made it home yesterday on fumes... from Athens. The January tour was incredibly hard. We encountered snow and dwindling club attendance everywhere. But we are still hopeful a lot of sound guys liked us and that is encouraging.

one tour highlight:
Johnny Hickman of the band Cracker came to our show in Athens and bought a CD and vinyl and was really complimentary of the band. He was a really down to earth nice dude.

We have a short run coming up in March and then a Midwest run coming up in april. Also i will be touring acoustic in February under the aka Spider + Octopus.

A new album is just about ready for studio work. Looks like a great year for touring and stuff. Thanks for coming to shows, listening to us or just reading the blog. Feel free to write us anytime.

Minneapolis 1.17.09

We played and played and played. We're tight, we stink, we're hungry, we're tired. Touring is so surreal. We're in Minneapolis today, we played with the Get Rites and Josh Harty our north Mid-West label mates. We'll be playing again with them this evening in Madison.

Des Moines was probably the scariest moment on this whole trip. We were loading out in - degree weather and we almost froze to death. But on a side note we met the Colour Music in the parking lot in the snow they were blocking the drive way.

St Louis was a bust, we played at the strangest club called the way out club, they treated us really well. We also saw some old friends there...

Lovely Wichita treated us well as always, our friend Kali put us up for the evening, we hung out with her dogs and black kitty. We played Kirby's Beerstore under new management. New Management has done a great job only improving the place.

We're driving through snow looking forward to the radio show in Cedar Falls on Monday.

ed wood band

12 days 12 shows. i was pretty run down when we arrived in asheville. we played a last minute show at the firestorm cafe. we played really well, i can hear the band hitting its stride. the people at the firestorm were really nice.

tonight we drive to johnson city, then nashville. its starting to get cold as well, which is pretty intimidating for florida boys.

the speakeasy 1.9.09

- he's a baller, not a folder
- he don't snore, apparently i do

We're on our way to Montgomery to the Head on the Door, should be great time, always has been

alabama music box 1.7.09

the alabama music box is the best sounding room in the southeast, competes easily with the bottletree in birmingham. we played a good show there last night, the people are wonderful. i met tim from the super nice bros (and he's very nice).

mobile is a strange town much like pensacola the streets are empty after 9p on weekdays. there are lots of strange building, and leaky pipes. lots of algae growing on alley walls. downtown is dimly lit, and a creepy. i like.

love liza was shot here...

in mobile.

Circle Bar 1.6.09

we played the circle bar last night. it was a great start for our tour. there were quite a few familiar faces.

set list

mustard seed boat
one wheel cycle
the wrestling palm
dresden
asleep in winter sleeves
the rose chafer in the country wine
untitled song for a city
skin on skin
